Crime Control Measures with Strong Security Arrangements” Says SP Tirupati

Tirupati district, renowned as a world-famous spiritual hub, is home to the divine shrine of Lord Venkateswara, the embodiment of the Kali Yuga God. Along with the sacred sites of Sri Kalahasti, Tiruchanur, Narayanavanam, Nagalapuram, and Srinivasa Mangapuram, the district also hosts important landmarks such as the Sriharikota Space Center, Sri City SEZ, and Tirupati International Airport. Known for its prominence in education, the district houses five universities and numerous colleges. Additionally, with hospitals like SVIMS, Ruya, and Bird Hospitals, Tirupati is a major healthcare destination, attracting thousands of patients from both within the district and neighboring areas. Keeping in mind the influx of visitors, the district police, under the leadership of District SP Sri L. Subbarayudu, IPS, have been working diligently to maintain strong security and smooth traffic management. On Monday, a press conference was held at the Sri Padmavati Saveri Conference Hall to unveil the annual crime statistics, where the SP shared the details.

  • Bodily Offences: In 2023, 933 cases were reported, whereas in 2024, 921 cases were recorded.
  • Property Offences: In 2023, 993 cases were reported, while in 2024, 983 cases were recorded.
  • Road Accidents: In 2023, 1,039 accidents occurred, whereas in 2024, 1,015 accidents were reported.
  • Cyber Crimes: In 2023, 173 cases were reported, whereas in 2024, 248 cases were registered.
  • White Collar Crimes: In 2023, 336 cases were reported, while in 2024, 312 cases were recorded.
  • Other IPC Crimes: In 2023, 2,651 cases were reported, and in 2024, 2,217 cases were registered.

Overall, compared to the previous year, cases have decreased by 7%. However, cyber crime cases have risen.


Cyber Crime Details:

  • 2023 NCRP Cyber Crime Cases: Cyber criminals looted ₹2,44,60,014/- and ₹84,08,392/- was recovered and refunded directly to the victims.
  • 2024 NCRP Cyber Crime Cases: Cyber criminals have looted ₹12,89,28,136/- and ₹2,36,16,426/- was recovered and refunded directly to the victims.
  • MobileHunt App: 4275 mobile phones worth ₹7,56,40,000/- were recovered and handed over to the victims.


Best Convictions in Murder and POCSO Cases – 2024

  • Tirumala I Town PS (Cr.No. 32/2022): Convicted in a murder case, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹1,000.
  • University PS (Cr.No. 68/2014), (Cr.No. 168/2022): Convicted in a double murder case, both accused were sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹2,000.
  • Tiruchanur PS (Cr.No. 685/2021): Convicted in a murder case, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹1,000.
  • Tirupati Rural PS (Cr.No. 272/2022): Convicted in a murder case, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹1,000.
  • Nayudupeta PS (Cr.No. 280/2022): Convicted in a murder case, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹5,000.
  • Tirupati East PS (Cr.No. 348/2018), (Cr.No. 259/2018): Convicted in a double murder case, both accused were sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹1,500.
  • Chilukuru PS (Cr.No. 140/2021): Convicted in a murder case, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹5,000.
  • Renigunta PS (Cr.No. 17/2022): Convicted in a murder case, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹1,000.
  • KVB Puram PS (Cr.No. 08/2019): Convicted in a murder case, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment until death with a fine of ₹10,000.
  • Chilukuru PS (Cr.No. 62/2021): Convicted in a POCSO case, the accused was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹20,000.
  • Gudur 2 Town PS (Cr.No. 232/2020): Convicted in a POCSO case, the accused were sentenced to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹20,000.
  • Balayyapalli PS (Cr.No. 55/2015): Convicted in a POCSO case, the accused were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹22,000.
  • Sullurupeta PS (Cr.No. 171/2014): Convicted in a POCSO case, the accused was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹20,000.


Drug Prevention Measures (Ganja Task Force)

  • A Ganja Task Force was formed with Addl SP (L&O), 1 CI, 1 HC, and 16 PCs to combat the illegal transportation of ganja.
  • 85 Ganja (NDPS) cases were registered, and 872.307 kg of ganja and 17 vehicles were seized. 223 accused were arrested and remanded.
  • A total of 239 habitual offenders were involved in ganja-related crimes.
  • 241 Drug Abuse Prevention Committees (DAPC) were set up in educational institutions.
  • 92 Awareness Programs were conducted on the harmful effects of ganja.

The task force continues to monitor hotspots such as railway stations, bus stands, and other areas prone to ganja use.


Technological Use in Solving High-Profile Cases

  • Vakadu PS (Cr.No. 89/2024): In a murder case, 5 accused were arrested and remanded.
  • YSR University PS (Cr.No. 112/2024): In a case of the murder of a 70-year-old woman, the accused was arrested and remanded.
  • Bhakarapet PS (Kidnapping Case): 4 accused were arrested, and fake pistols, cars, drug syringes, and other items were seized.
  • Nayudupeta PS (Cr.No. 246/2024): In a case involving theft of an iron-loaded lorry worth ₹50,00,000/-, 3 accused were arrested and the stolen goods were recovered.
  • Chandragiri PS (Cr.No. 218/2024): In an ATM theft case, the accused was arrested and ₹5,38,000/-, a Maruti Alto car, an LG refrigerator, two mobile phones, and a Yamaha Fascino scooter worth ₹11,97,000/- were recovered.


Destruction of Seized Illegal Liquor Bottles

  • A total of 27,568 bottles of illegal liquor, worth ₹36 lakhs, were destroyed using a road roller.


Awareness Campaigns (Cyber Crime, Crime Against Women, Anti-Ragging)

  • Cyber Crime Awareness Week was conducted for 9 days, reaching out to students in schools, colleges, and industrial areas through awareness programs.
  • 117 Awareness Sessions on crimes against women were conducted in schools, hostels, and colleges by Women Protection Force personnel.
  • Women Protection Units were formed for patrolling, counseling, and ensuring women’s safety across the district.
  • SOS Calls for women’s protection were responded to within 3-4 minutes.
  • Anti-Ragging awareness programs were held in universities and colleges by the police.


Traffic Management and Road Safety

  • Highway Mobile Units were set up to prevent illegal parking on highways and ensure smooth traffic flow.
  • Breath Analyzers were used to check drunk driving, and violators were booked.
  • A Command Control Center continuously monitors traffic to prevent congestion.
  • 100 Black Spots identified on National Highways were monitored using drones, and necessary measures were taken to reduce accidents.
  • Helmet Awareness programs were conducted in schools and colleges.
  • Noise Pollution: 385 bullet motorcycles had their silencers crushed with a road roller to control noise pollution.


Public Safety Awareness Campaigns (CCTV Installation)

  • Meetings were held with business owners and industrialists across the district to raise awareness about the importance of installing CCTV cameras.
  • Efforts are ongoing to install CCTV cameras in all commercial areas for public safety.


Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS)

  • PGRS has handled 882 complaints, with 762 being resolved and 120 under review within the stipulated timeframe.
  • Online police services have been strengthened for public convenience.


Police Website Launch

  • Tirupati Police Website launched for public convenience, providing easy access to police services and information. The website can be accessed at https://Tirupatipolice.ap.gov.in.


Bandobast Duties for VVIP Visits and Festivals

  • VVIP Security: Comprehensive security arrangements were made for visits by high-profile individuals such as the Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Governors during their visits to Tirumala and Tirupati.
  • Festivals and Events: Tight security arrangements were made for religious festivals like Tirumala Brahmotsavams, Tiruchanoor Sri Padmavathi Brahmotsavams, and Mahashivaratri. GPRS-enabled geo-tagging helped reunite lost children and elderly people with their families.


Welfare of Police Personnel

  • Health Camps: Medical camps, including cancer awareness programs and blood donation camps, have been organized for police personnel.
  • Support for Families: Financial aid and compassionate allowances were provided to the families of police personnel who died unexpectedly.
